   <title><![CDATA[Recipe: Almond  Biscuit  Ring]]></title>

   <description><![CDATA[ In a 1 1/2 quart microwave safe casserole, combine the brown sugar replacement, maple syrup, margarine and water.  Cover with a paper towel and microwave on high for one minute.  Allow to sit, covered for one minute, then stir to mix in the melted margarine.  Stir in the almonds.  Cut each of the biscuits into four pieces.

Roll each piece into a ball.  Dip each piece into the syrup mixture then place in a microwave safe ring mold.   Arrange all coated balls uniformly around the ring mold.  Pour any remaining syrup over the balls in the mold. 

Microwave on medium (50% power) for 5 to 6 minutes, turning the mold 1/4 turn after each two minutes.  Remove from oven and immediately cover with waxed paper.  Allow to sit undisturbed 5 minutes; then turn out onto a serving dish.  Divide into 10 servings.  About 80 calories per serving.

   <description><![CDATA[ Pre-heat oven to 375 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a non-stick baking mat. Beat together shortening and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolk, orange and lemon peels, and lemon juice. Stir in flour and salt. Chill dough for approximately 1 hour. 

Form dough into 1" balls, then dip in egg white and roll in chopped hazelnuts. Press half candied cherry into the top of each cookie. Bake for about 8 minutes or until cookies are set but not brown. Allow to cool for 1 minute on baking sheets, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.

   <description><![CDATA[ Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan. 
To prepare Pastry: In a large bowl, mix the eggs and both sugars together. Blend in the nuts and sift the flour with the baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture and blend well. Press into the bottom of the greased pan. 

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. While pastry bakes, mix 1/4 cup of brown sugar, cream and cashews into the melted butter. Spread over baked pastry and place under a broiler for about 1 minute, until topping bubbles and becomes brown. Cut into bars while warm. Let cool in pan.

   <description><![CDATA[ Cream shortening and sugar in mixing bowl, beat in eggs, one at a time. Mix water and baking soda in small bowl until dissolved. Add
baking soda mixture and sorghum to butter mixture. Sift 5 1/2 cups of the flour, the spices and salt together. Blend into dough. Divide dough into 4 balls. Wrap in plastic wrap. Flatten and refrigerate overnight.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll 1 portion of dough out at a time on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Bake on a greased
cookie sheet until puffed, 10 to 12 minutes. Do not over bake.

When cool, decorate with butter cream frosting and/or candies as desired. Sorghum gives these cookies a special flavor, but molasses can be used as a substitute.

   <description><![CDATA[ Beat powdered sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in baking mix until soft dough forms. Divide dough in half. Mix yellow and red food colors into 1 half to make orange dough; mix cocoa into other half to make chocolate dough. Cover and refrigerate doughs separately 1 to 2 hours or until chilled.

Heat oven to 400º. Roll one-fourth of the dough at a time 1/8 inch thick on floured cloth-covered surface. (Keep remaining dough refrigerated until ready to roll.) Cut orange dough with 2- to 3-inch pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter and chocolate dough with medium-size cat-shaped cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

Prepare Egg Yolk Paint. Paint faces on pumpkins and cats. Bake 5 to 7 minutes or until edges are light brown. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

EGG YOLK PAINT:
Mix egg yolk and water. Divide mixture among a few small custard cups. Tint each with a different food color. If paint thickens while standing, stir in a few drops water.
